Artist statement

I am an artist and educator from County Cavan, currently completing my studies in Art and Design Education at Limerick School of Art and Design. My practice is grounded in noticing what is often overlooked, whether held quietly in personal memory or dispersed throughout contemporary life.

Painting sits at the centre of my practice, primarily using acrylics and oils to build layers, texture, and a sense of presence. My earlier work explored themes of displacement and nostalgia through the lens of my grandmother’s home, where solid furniture became anchors of memory and belonging, while fragile or fragmented domestic objects reflected what slips, fades, or becomes uncertain over time.

This tension between what remains fixed and what fractures continues to inform my work.

More recently, my focus has shifted toward the traces of human behaviour within contemporary, digitally mediated life. I am particularly interested in how digital culture flattens experience and creates distance from our environments and from one another, especially within the domestic spaces we inhabit daily. My current work explores this growing sense of separation as attention becomes increasingly absorbed by screens.

Through my practice, I aim to create moments of pause that encourage reflection and awareness. As an educator, this approach informs how I support students in observing carefully, questioning their surroundings, and using personal experience as a starting point for creative exploration.

“The purpose of art is to make the invisible visible.”

- Paul Klee
